CBD Oil Tinctures: A Guide For Beginners

There are many health benefits to taking CBD, and for new users, CBD oil tinctures are a fast-acting and convenient way to enjoy these benefits.

In this article, we’ll guide you through what CBD tincture is, how it works, and how much you should take.

How does CBD work?

CBD (cannabidiol) is a naturally occurring compound found in the hemp plant, which is part of the Cannabis Sativa family. Unlike other phytocannabinoids like THC, which is found in marijuana, CBD is non-psychoactive and will not induce mind-altering effects or intoxication associated with “getting high.”

When ingested, CBD is able to bind to a network of receptors called the endocannabinoid system (ECS). These complex receptors are found throughout the central nervous system and other biological systems and are responsible for restoring balance within our body, such as mood, appetite, pain, and mental clarity.

What is CBD oil tincture?

Herbal tinctures have been used for centuries, even before modern medicine. The first cannabis tincture was officially recorded in a medical journal published in 1843.

CBD tinctures can be produced in many different ways. Usually the flower buds are soaked in a solvent such as alcohol or vegetable glycerine for several weeks to form a concentrated liquid. A carrier oil like MCT coconut oil is added to dilute the concentrate. Sometimes natural flavorings are added like mango, strawberry or peppermint

Full spectrum vs. broad spectrum CBD tincture

The difference between the two CBD tinctures is that full spectrum contains a tiny amount of THC and broad spectrum contains no amount of THC.

When CBD is extracted from the hemp plant, it contains trace amounts of THC, which is less than 0.3%. This tiny amount will not make you feel high but can show up in some drug tests. If you can’t have any THC in your system or are very sensitive to THC, then we would recommend the broad spectrum CBD oil tincture as it has 0% THC.

At GRN, our CBD oil tinctures come in both full spectrum and broad spectrum.

How to take CBD tinctures

The best method of taking CBD tinctures is sublingually, which is placing the drops under your tongue and holding it for about 1-2 minutes before swallowing.

This is the quickest and best method to absorb the CBD as there are numerous blood vessels under our tongue and will the CBD to enter the bloodstream directly.

You can also mix the CBD tincture into beverages and foods but we recommend to avoid cooking with CBD oil as high heat can diminish the therapeutic properties. When you swallow directly, the majority of the CBD will be absorbed by the digestive tract before entering the bloodstream. Thus, the effects of CBD might take longer to feel and might not be as strong.
